Code of Conduct .

Discord, Events and Online spaces
- We have a zero-tolerance policy for bigotry or harassment in Discord, or in person on any occasion. Issues should be raised with the moderation team on Discord.
- Our Discord, website and online events are 16+. Many of our daytime events are open to younger attendees if accompanied by a member, but this may vary from venue to venue.
- Be polite and respectful in all conversations, keeping those conversations appropriate. We are all here to enjoy each other's company. While we like to have fun, some lines should not be crossed. If you have a dispute with another member, it must be handled via the Moderation Team (mods). Do not DM or approach another member in person to resolve or continue perceived disputes.
- If you wish to DM (direct message) any other member, always ask permission first in a group channel and respect their response if the answer is no. If the dm dialogue is pertinent to a specific event or situation, ask permission again before starting other conversations, unless it's mutually agreed that the dm channel stays permanently open.
- No explicit NSFW content should be posted in open Discord channels. If sharing work with triggering/explicit content, please consider warning the reader and using the appropriate spoiler tags. For example:
Trigger warning... || hidden text || - Do not post text or images promoting violence against others or self-harm.
- Do your best to find the correct channel for your conversation. If you engage in a prolonged back-and-forth with other members in a general channel, please use the threading feature to avoid flooding the channel.
- Respect the moderators and their decisions. If you feel an action was taken against you and it was invalid, address it via DM to the moderation team.
- Please only post work in critique channels. If you send work via another mechanism (email, DM, etc.), only do so if the person you are sending it to solicits it.
- Self-promotion is encouraged in the appropriate channels. Celebrate your work! Consider using the #self-promotion and #yay channels, but you may also link to your work in other channels if relevant to the conversation.
#publishing-industry
Calling out this Discord channel in particular...
Publishing is a large and complex industry with bad actors, scams, misunderstandings and opposing viewpoints, just like every other industry. Please be mindful of sharing or re-sharing specific information and accusations without due diligence, and consider DM-ing information in some circumstances. Industry whisper networks are an important defence against insidious behaviour and power imbalances, but this is also a public server with a large membership.
Meetup and Events
While the above general rules apply to our “in real life” (IRL) events, please respect personal space, the subject of conversation, and trigger subjects.
Your work
Edinburgh SFF will never share or use any messages, writing, art or other materials from the Discord server.
If you share your work with someone in our community via DM, critique channels or public channels, it is your responsibility to ensure that it is done appropriately and safely. You are responsible for removing any work or links to work when no longer required.
